Sheriff's Office & Jail
The Sheriff's Office is staffed with a diversified workforce of sworn and civilian personnel who are well prepared to protect and serve the needs of our county. The men and women of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office are professional law enforcement deputies who strive to perform their job in a fair, equitable, and just manner.
Only through a partnership with the residents of Habersham County can these men and women best serve the needs of the community. By working together we ensure Habersham County to be a desirable place to visit, work and live.
In addition to providing physical security in the courtrooms and courthouse, the Sheriff must serve as Bailiff to the Superior Court, or designate deputies to serve in that capacity. The Sheriff is charged with serving all court summons and executing all court-ordered levies on property to satisfy judgments in court actions. The Sheriff is also responsible for the transportation of mentally ill residents of the county to mental health emergency receiving facilities.
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office will work diligently in fulfilling your request for documents in accordance with the Open Records Act. As authorized by O.C.G.A. Section 50-18-71(b)(2), the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has designated an Open Records Officer. Official requests for records under the Open Records Act must be made directly to the Open Records Officer, Miranda Kemp. Habersham County Detention Center
The Sheriff is the official jailer of the county and is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of all inmates. The courts have established strict guidelines that the Sheriff must follow in providing these things to inmates.
The Habersham County Detention Center houses inmates who are awaiting trial or have been sentenced to one year or less. Inmates are treated in a fair and professional manner as required by law and are provided programs such as GED, and Religious Programs.
